Dr. Girish Mood belongs to Gor Banjara community which is an indigenous tribe belonging to southern Asia. Colonization, caste discrimination had affected their entire community and combined with rapid industrialisation as well as urbanisation, had resulted in oppression at large. His father being the only literate among the entire family, who then became a doctor serving rural part of karnataka, Dr. Girish Mood got to experience the journey of life from the grass root level.
Education being the only tool which empowered him to further his training in the prestigious institutions from UK (Guys and St. Thomas, London) and USA (Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, St. Elizabeth/Tuft’s University, Boston) in the field of cardiovascular medicine. This emboldened his belief that education and global awareness was the only way to help many talented youths from his community and others to walk out of the social oppression. Even though there was a lucrative job available for him in the US, he decided to relocate back to India and walk along with his community as well as other oppressed people. Fighting the social menace is not an easy task at any level but providing an opportunity for those who are keen to progress organically seemed reasonable.
Hence, this trust was established on his family identity as well their revered community social worker, Shri Sevalal Maharaj. Shri. Sevalal apparently travelled across the region preaching against idol worship, superstition and other social menace and also highlighting the importance of education and awareness.
Dr. Girish believes in collective growth with scientific temper. It is not how many people follow you but it is how many good people are with you. As a medical professional, he also strongly believes in quality of life than quantity of life. Along with practicing interventional cardiology in the US, he enjoys social work; spreading health awareness; organic farming and spending quality time with youths, helping them to further their career. Through this trust, he also hopes to create a blend between nature, humans and environment around us.
He is also passionate in human history, especially related to indigenous tribes such as his. He believes that here is a lot to learn in terms of human diet, health, cultural practices which has been unique to each tribes and actually maintained the health of the individual as well as their society.
